“Thus says the Lord of hosts:
‘Execute true justice,
Show mercy and compassion
Everyone to his brother.
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,
The alien or the poor.
Let none of you plan evil in his heart
Against his brother.’ “
This is a verse that the Lord gave us when he was prompting us to move out here and begin some sort of ministry. What was that going to look like? We had no idea. And we still don’t have a complete picture. Really, I hope that we never feel we do have a complete picture, because if we did then I think we would forget about seeking God and his desire for our life each day. We would get too goal oriented, and forget to be God oriented.
So today I remembered this verse and sat in awe of how somehow, someway, the Lord had allowed us to begin to minister to each of the four people groups listed in this verse. We didn’t have to search out for these people or seek opportunities. God just brought it all together. Amazing.
The widow and the fatherless-use the building we have as some sort of transitional housing for women and children, where the women will learn job skills, both will learn life skills, and kids will get tutoring.
The alien-befriend refugees and help them learn English, and find jobs. (We heard about refugees in the city through some friends)
The poor-talk with people on the streets (mostly California Ave. where the building is located) and in the Rescue Mission (which we somehow have favor with), pray for them, help them if they need it.
Baffled at God’s mysterious ways,
