The Joshua Generation

I don’t know about you, but i am seeing a generation of people rising up. For some time before i moved here to Oklahoma City, Chris Basirico (a friend of mine from Wildwood Calvary Chapel in Yucaipa) and i started talking about Joshua and how he took back the land. He crossed over (and we know that it was the crossing over to a spirit filled life) and conquerored the enemy one city at a time. Chris and i started just sort of talking about how Joshua took over 31 cities. Here is what I am calling or defining the Joshua Generation:

  1. a people group ages ranging from early 20’s to early 30’s
  2. they are asking great questions like, what does the church look like
  3. they are wanting to know why they are just wandering through life and not seeing an impact
  4. they have been watching for 40 years as the generation before them did life but to gain what
  5. they are seeing a great purpose and desire to forsake things of this kingdom and pursue the kingdom of another age

Some verses to help piece this puzzle:

Joshua 1:2 Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which i am giving to them–the children of Israel. Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as i said to Moses.

Joshua 1:7,8 Only be strong and very courageous, that yo may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand nor the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.

Joshua 1:13 “Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, ‘The LORD your God is giving you rest and is giving you this land.’

I remember sharing Joshua 1 at our senior send off one year. And man, verse 7 and 8 really just hit it home to this Joshua Generation. For you see, they are seeing that the prosperous way and the way of success is not a corporate latter persay, but more of a warrior mindset for the king of kings. One who lives out this authority that they have been given to go take back captives, to rescue the lost, to seek first the kingdom, and knowing that all these other things will be provided.

Watch out for these warriors. They may actually be next door, but you may not know it because their battle is being won on their knees. For you see, last night, my wife and I had dinner with a couple who fits this set of characteristics. And their prayer life reflects it. They are hungry for a life fully submitted to the authorship of Christ…
